North Head Manly, Whales and bats

I went to North Head in Manly to see if I could see any whales.

It was a beautiful calm day and I was alerted to the presence of whales by a man with good binoculars. Here are three pictures of whales coming up out of the ocean. They are very near a boat that I assume was whale watching!

   Two whales!

The area was of course originally Aboriginal.

It is a shocking story of colonisation.

We went back to Manly to try to photograph bats who were numerous in the town. There was a tree that all the birds roost in at dusk. The sound is defeaning.  Despite hearing bats after the birds had settled we couldn't see any and there has been a campaign to move them which is very sad.
